Go big or go home!
For my first race in 2016, I decided to go big or go home. Why do a 5k or even a 10K when you can do a 25k?
I had a blast at the Hawkeye 25 and 50K in early April 2016. I learned two truths about myself, though.
1. I went into the race pretty untrained and it was ugly, but I did it. I’m not going to lie – I walked a good two-thirds of it. There’s nothing wrong with that in my book as long as you don’t quit (unless medically necessary, of course).
2. I’ve evolved from a solo only runner to a gal who needs and loves her running buddies. Whether it’s short passes with my dad or a long, quick dirges with my relay team, I do better when I have someone I know pushing me to succeed.
Will I do it again next year? That’s the $100,000 question. I guarantee if I do that I will enlist a buddy to do it with me. Then maybe I won’t be a blubbering mess by the time I get to the finish line!
